Most people have a ton of things to do in the winter, but if you have some time off and you want to add value to your home, read on for some nice DIY project ideas. Create more space in your home with floating shelves, or create a greener atmosphere for the winter with a nice planter.
Floating Shelves
Floating shelves are an attractive and functional addition to any home; they are also excellent space savers. A floating shelf is positioned on the wall without the need for a stand or external support, they look like magical floating platforms, but they are secured to the wall effectively.
Floating shelves are easy to make and offer a nice DIY project for the winter. Create your shelves using planks of wood and secure them to the wall with a special bracket. The bracket is fixed to the wall and has two supporting tubes that allow the shelf – with holes in it – to fit on.
Hanging Planter
If you have some time to spare this winter, why not bring some additional colour and a fresher atmosphere to your home with a hanging planter? Hanging planters are also very easy to make and work well in bathrooms and hallways. Bespoke joinery from Ligna Carpentry can also help.
Again, a hanging planter is very simple to make; all you need is a few planks of wood for shelving, depending on how many shelves you need. Cut three holes from the planks to fit some plant pots and measure holes for every corner; the twine suspends the planks from the ceiling.
Stone Bathroom Rug
If you have ever been to a spa resort, you will know about the quality stone floors they have there; these are designed to provide some luxury and quality to the spa experience. Now, there is a convenient DIY way to introduce stone to your bathroom that is both affordable and fun.
Hardware stores tend to sell smooth stones that can be used to create an attractive stone bathroom rug or mat; alternatively, you could visit the beach in your local area and collect some authentic ones. Use strong glue to fix the stones to a conventional bathroom mat or a rug.
Mudroom Wall Unit
Everyone could use a mudroom organiser in their home; this is a unit that allows you and your family to store their shoes and boots; these units also have hooks that can be used to hang coats and scarves. All in all, a mudroom unit is practical and convenient to make or upcycle.
If you have some old furniture, you have the perfect raw material for a mudroom wall unit. Break the furniture up into planks that will be used as shelves on the unit; you will also need some sides, a back, and hooks that you can buy from the store. Make it standing or wall-mounted.
Laundry Basket Stand
A laundry basket is an excellent thing to make if you have some spare time and creativity during the winter. Laundry is one of the things that clutter up the home and makes it difficult to organise, but with a wooden stand that holds three laundry baskets, you have the best system.
