Renovating a property is exciting, especially if it’s somewhere you already or intend to call home. You get to turn a space into something that’s entirely your own vision and that’s a huge achievement. Although it’s exciting, it’s also expensive so it’s not surprising that renovators want to save money where they can.
You may be tempted to cut a few corners for the sake of saving money but there are a few things you should never cheap out on. Take a look at what you need to know.
Ventilation
Many people have made this mistake in the past only to have to spend more money rectifying it. Ventilation is extremely important throughout the entirety of your property but more so in your bathroom. This is the room that sees the most moisture buildup of the whole property.
Without somewhere for this moisture to go, it will just sit on the walls. After a while, you may notice signs of mold. This can look like discolouring or black patches on paint and in between tiles. When proper ventilation is in place, this shouldn’t happen.
Insulation
Do you really need to pay for external wall insulation? Yes you do! When it comes to keeping your home warm and comfortable insulation plays a huge part.
Skipping the insulation process will just lead to cold and even damp rooms that you need to heat, using tons of energy in the process. Without insulation, all the heat that builds up in your home could escape.
Flooring
Perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects of any home, flooring should never be scrimped on. You won’t know how frustrating it can be to have a poor quality or damaged floor until you have to deal with it. Take time to think about the type of flooring you want in each room.
Make sure you invest in quality. That doesn’t mean you can’t look around for the best price but don’t cut corners when it comes to materials and installation. The last thing you want to be doing is ripping up flooring a few weeks after finishing your renovation.
Electrical Fixtures
Just because they’re small, it doesn’t mean they’re not important. Your electrical fixtures should all be safe and correctly installed by an electrician. Don’t try and scrimp on these fixtures and never try and install them yourself.
Without proper installation for every electrical outlet in your home, your electrical points could become a fire hazard. It’s not worth putting yourself or anyone else at risk.
Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets often see more use than any other type of cabinet or cupboard in the home. This is why it’s so important to have them properly fitted and make sure the materials used are high quality. No-one wants kitchen cabinets that are falling apart after a few uses so it’s worth investing in custom built cabinets installed by a carpenter.
