How to Improve Your Home Exterior

September 13, 2024

Looking for ways to improve the curb appeal of your home? If so, you’re not alone. Quite a few people search online to find ways that they can make the exterior of their home look good. It’s the part of the house that people will judge you on most, and while that’s never a nice thing to realize, it’s exactly the truth.

When people walk down the street, they will revere or they will hold their breath at the beautiful houses, but they will often judge and sneer at the ones that look ugly. Exterior painting can always help, but knowing that you’ve done all you can to make the exterior of your home look good will make you feel good as a homeowner. There are some really easy DIY ways to brighten up the kerbside appeal of your home, though, so we’ve come up with a list of ways to improve your home exterior in the space of a weekend. You don’t even have to call a professional if you have the tools of the trade.

  1. Give the walls a wash. It seems like an obvious thing to do, but nothing really beats giving your walls of your home a good old scrub down. If you have a pressure washer, that’s even better. Removing the loose dirt can be really easy but if your walls are in the shade or you live in a colder climate you may also notice things like mold or moss growing a simple wash may not give you the desired results that you want.
  2. Give you a driveway clean. Driveways are often a forgotten, worn out, or stained looking piece of concrete. This is fine if you’re going to be going for that look, but when you want to freshen up the front of your property, you need to give it a complete scrub. Again, a pressure washer can really help, but you can turn the hose on it and get a sharp scrubbing brush to go down and loosen some of the dirt. Oil and grease stains can happen on a driveway, so if you stay on top of them it won’t look unsightly.
  3. Restore the tiles on your roof. This is something you should need a professional for, but it’s one of the easiest and most dramatic ways of revamping your home’s exterior. It’s not the easiest way to do it on the list if you’re the one doing it, but it can be impressive. If you have a tiled roof, cleaning off the gap grout and fixing any broken water is a great start. Speak to a professional here though, if you haven’t got a huge ladder or you’re nervous about working at a height.
  4. Give the roof a paint job. Another quick way to restore your roof and extend its life is with a paint job. In a similar way to re-mortaring works painting the roof looks great but adds value to your home at the same time it could even help to reduce your power bill.
